1. Our Approach to Privacy
Packlane is an offline-first travel packing list app. Your trips, lists, templates, and packing progress are stored locally on your device, there is no Packlane account, and we do not operate servers that store your packing data. This policy explains the limited data involved, the optional weather feature that makes a network request, and the third-party services the app uses.
2. Your Trips Stay on Your Device
The trips you create, the packing lists and templates you build, your item quantities, bag and traveler details, weights, and packing progress are stored in a local database on your device. We do not receive, read, or store this content on our servers. Deleting a trip, clearing your data, or deleting the app removes that content from the device.
3. Backups Are Files You Own
Packlane can export your data as a plain JSON backup file that you save and control — for example to Files, iCloud Drive, or via AirDrop — and import again on any device. Packlane does not provide cloud storage or sync; the backup file is yours, and where you store it is governed by that storage provider's terms, not ours.
4. Optional Live Weather
Packlane's core climate model is offline and based on the weather you select yourself. If you turn on the optional live-weather layer, the app requests a forecast for your trip's location from a third-party weather service (such as Open-Meteo), without a Packlane account. Only what is needed to fetch the forecast (such as the place you search for or approximate coordinates) is sent, and if the request fails the app silently falls back to the offline model. The feature is optional and can be left off.
5. Notifications
With your permission, Packlane can send local reminders — such as a packing reminder the day before departure and a morning-of reminder for last-minute items. These notifications are scheduled on your device and can be turned off at any time in the app or in your device settings.
6. Third-Party Services
Packlane uses a small number of third-party services for subscriptions, analytics, and advertising measurement. These services may process limited technical or anonymous data under their own privacy policies, which you should review separately.
- Adapty — manages in-app purchases and subscription entitlements.
- Amplitude — collects anonymous, aggregate usage analytics such as which features are used; it is not linked to your trip contents.
- Meta SDK — used to measure the effectiveness of advertising. On iOS it is gated behind the App Tracking Transparency prompt, and the app does not collect the advertising identifier unless you grant permission.
7. App Tracking Transparency (iOS)
On iOS, Packlane asks for tracking permission through Apple's standard App Tracking Transparency prompt. If you decline, advertising measurement runs without your device advertising identifier. Your packing lists are never used for advertising and are never shared.
8. Analytics and Advertising
Analytics events describe how features are used (for example, that a trip was created or a list generated) in an anonymous, aggregate form. They do not include the specific items, destinations, or personal details in your trips. Advertising measurement is used only to understand which campaigns bring people to Packlane.
9. Children's Privacy
Packlane's family features let you add travelers with age bands to compute packing quantities; this information stays on your device and is not collected by us. Packlane is not directed to children under the age required for consent in your jurisdiction and does not knowingly collect personal information from them.
10. Your Rights and Control
Because your data lives on your device, you are always in control of it. You can delete any trip, clear all data, export everything to a JSON backup, or remove the app entirely. Export is always available and never restricted by a subscription.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with a revised “last updated” date. Continued use of Packlane after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
